Because rented accommodation is a direct cost to your building project, you may be tempted to keep living in your house while the work is taking place.
A benefit of staying put is you’ll keep on top of things, from checking progress on a daily basis to being there for site meetings and decision making. But if it’s a DIY job, it could mean the project will drag out longer than it should.
And no matter how tidy your builder is, or how tidy you are, the dust and upheaval will wear you down eventually. As will moving from room to room to allow works to progress. If you have children, you’re likely to choose to live away from the dangers that come with a building site.
A caravan may or may not be an option depending on where you are building but it is not for the fainthearted, especially in winter, while free accommodation in the form of living with family or friends isn’t necessarily easy either.
As with every decision it will very much depend on your own circumstances but make sure to consider all the pros and cons before choosing where to live.
