Help! I have condensation in my bathroom…

Q: I have condensation in my bathroom, should I install a humidistat-operated fan or even a dehumidifier?

A: You could but the humidity sensor needs to be set quite low to kick in when you need it, so do check this is enough. Arguably the most reliable solution is the old-fashioned pull cord system, which activates the fan when you yank the cord, but make sure you get in the habit of switching it on every time you use the bathroom. A dehumidifier can also be installed but remember that all electrical work needs to be carried out by a qualified electrician and that fans and similar equipment require a specific type of wiring/safety installation. Leaving the heating on, e.g. towel radiator, could also help. For more on damp and mould see article here.
